Bollywood Ho......zzzzzzz

Bollywood Hollywood

This was another film that I had heard about quite a bit in a nice way and hence was excited to watch it. The initial reluctance caused by seeing Rahul Bose's name on the label was quickly overcome by the fact that I had heard from reasonably reliable sources about the movie. I have seen way too many movies of Rahul Bose in the recent past, including, Chameli, Jhankaar Beats, Mr & Mrs Iyer, etc.

But as soon as I watched the first bit of the movie, I saw that it was Rahul Khanna, not Rahul Bose (as someone said in one of the comments to my post: they better get their facts straight!). My sister was all ga-ga about Rahul in her younger days when he was a VJ on MTV. I did not find him as talented as his brother, Akshaye, who also makes a brief cameo in this movie.

The reason why the title of this blog post is terminated by the snores is because that's how my viewing of this movie also terminated. Don't get me wrong... the culprit was not entirely the movie. I was way too tired and hence fell asleep, however, some blame does go to the movie.

What's new?

As far as I saw it, it was a pretty slow moving film. The total English medium took me by surprise and left me as the only viewer of this film, since my parents resigned as soon as they knew it was not Hindi. It was an oft repeated theme of a traditional family that blackmails young men to get married as soon as they get "settled". Here there was a twist, a smart guy hires Lisa Ray, (who was really hot in some sequences), to act as his fiance' and then you know what happens. Filling in those blanks will not be appropriate in this section, since it will no longer be anything new!

Noticeable

This was a daring movie. Some sequences were clearly not suitable for viewing with the whole family, specially the scene where a woman makes a takla guy's head a pendulum between the extremities of her chest! If she were a Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears or our very own Mallika Sherawat or worst case even Mandira Bedi, I might have been more interested.. but this one was disgusting far beyond any of the names mentioned! Why can't Bollywood ever make the right choice!?!?!? The Akshaye song was good. Besides that, Rahul was kind of a disappointment to me.

Medium: VHS @ Home

Verdict: Certainly not a must watch... kind of let me down.. but provides a good entertainment factor if you are not as tired as I was when I began watching this. Can watch it only once I think.. not much repeat viewability.
